Well, the Tar Heels did it again. In just four short years, they became the NCAA Men's Basketball Champions. This time, they did it by beating (more like slaughtering) Michigan State. Oh MSU, you had so much potential but its okay, UNC is just the better team. Illini Nation knows how you feel. If you need a shoulder to cry on, we're here. We were the last team UNC took down to win a national championship, and we know... it hurts. Of course, Illinois did hold the number 1 spot in rankings for 17 weeks straight and only had 1 regular season loss... so i guess that makes a bit of a difference. In my reminiscing of that magical 2004-2005 Illinois season, I can't help but remember the game more exciting than the national championship against UNC, or the Final Four game against Louisville, but the Elite Eight game against Arizona. When all hope seemed lost (being down by 15 with 3 minutes to go), the Illini, led by Deron Williams, Dee Brown and Luther Head rallied back to take the game into overtime.... and then to win. It still gives me goosebumps watching the highlights.
