Say What You Need to Say

My friend Whitney, whose blog I happen to love - check it out! - recently posted the video below. While it seems a little over the top, the truth is, the way we communicate with one another has completely changed. I can't count the number of times I have edited a text because one word made it seem too "forward." Or how many times I've switched "!" to "..." because I didn't want my excitement to seem too apparent. The truth is, how is anyone supposed to know how we feel if we always edit what we want to say? Sometimes, it's better to just put it out there. In one of my favorite movies, My Best Friend's Wedding, Julia Roberts and Dermot Mulroney are on a boat ride on the river that runs through Chicago. Mulroney couldn't put it more perfect when he says to Roberts, "Kimmy says if you love someone you say it, you say it right then, out loud. Otherwise the moment just... passes you by." While we might not be expressing our love for someone, the point is that we need to say what we mean, or the chance slips by.

The Social Network

Facebook. It's what we use to procrastinate, what we use to stalk our ex boyfriends, what we use to connect with distant friends, and what we use to socialize. Facebook has defined our generation, and defined this decade. The Social Network, directed by David Fincher and written by Aaron Sorkin, hits theaters this Friday, October 1st. The movie follows Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg, played by Jesse Eisenberg, and his journey in creating Facebook. This movie is a must see for anyone who has Facebook, and even those who don't. Check out the trailer if you haven't seen it yet.
