what i'm loving

There is so much cute stuff out right now. Last summer, I felt the opposite. I pretty much hated everything. I don't know what happened this summer but y'all, I seriously have to restrain myself from just going crazy and spending a ton of money without even blinking. Self restraint, Rachel. Self restraint. If I COULD go nuts, below are things I would most certainly scoop right up. I love the tiny scallop detail on the shorts, the peplum top has grosgrain ribbon straps (adore), and something about that orange and blue dress is just speaking to me. Those Fighting Illini roots coming out in me, I guess?!

5 great tassel earrings

Remember when statement necklaces were totally the thing? And we couldn't get enough of arm parties?

Well, I think it's the time of the statement earring.

Don't get me wrong - I still love a good statement necklace every now and then, but earrings are just doing it so much more for me right now. It sounds silly, but I love that I can choose how they make their statement - with my hair pulled back, proudly showing off the earrings, or with my hair down, making them slightly less noticeable. The trend really seems to be some sort of tassel, so I've rounded up five of my favorite tassel earrings under $60.

1. Club Monaco Tassel Earrings (under $20!)
5. Vanessa Mooney Tassel Earring (comes in 5 colors)

the best bags for weekend trips

I remember when I got my first Vera Bradley overnight duffel bag. It was for Christmas, and I was SO excited to no longer have to use a Nike athletic bag for overnight trips. I loved the print - a blue and brown floral print - and I even have a cosmetic bag to match. The little things, right? Well, I'm still using that same duffel probably 10 years later and I can say it has seen quite the trips over the years. Props to Vera Bradley too, because that thing has held up very well. After 10 years, though, I think it's time to upgrade to something new, don't you think?!

Just in time for Memorial Day weekend and all the summer travels ahead, I've rounded up some great weekender bags. With whatever I choose, I want it to last as long as my Vera Bradley did. Rather than a bold print, I think I'll go with something neutral and classic.

Mark & Graham leather weekender bag - perfect for all upcoming summer travels

Kate Spade nylon weekender bag - perfect for all upcoming summer travels

Lo & Son's weekender bag - perfect for all upcoming summer travels

j.crew comeback

For the longest time, J.Crew was one of my favorite stores, if not THE favorite store. It was my go-to, and with every season of new arrivals, I would have about 30 things on my wishlist. But over the past two, maybe almost three years, they have just not been doing it for me like they used to. I feel like it was a combination of trying to be too trendy with not enough classic, wrong fits, poor quality, and the same lackluster pieces. Honestly, I think I bought one thing from J.Crew last spring/summer and that was a pair of shoes (which I do love). And I wasn't the only one who felt the J.Crew slump - the company definitely took some major hits in sales, with plenty of articles magnifying the issue (as much of an issue as badly designed clothes and falling sales can be).

But y'all, I think they've finally figured some things out (and fired their head designer) for this spring season. It finally feels like the J.Crew I grew up loving. And while I'm still a little hesitant on the quality and the ever rising prices, I can at least say there are things that look worth buying (see my picks below).

It's looking more classic, but still on trend. Fresh and fun, but not over the top. Until the dark ages of their downward spiral, I always thought J.Crew was amazing at combining timeless classic and basics with on-trend items and making them their own. It seems like they are finally getting back to that.

So let's continue this comeback, J.Crew. On the note of comebacks, how about my first blog post in 5 months? I might just be having a comeback of my own... but more on that for another post!

FALL WISHLIST - THE STAPLES

The weather is getting cooler and the humidity is starting to leave the air (thank goodness) - fall is almost here! I've been taking a little inventory on my current closet and there is a lot I want to purge and kind of, sort of, a lot of staples I want/need to add. My style has definitely evolved over the years to more simple and neutral and I want what I purchase this season to be thoughtful and reflect that. Lots of cozy layers and pieces that can easily transition from work to happy hour to out on the town.

C.WONDER CLOSING

Happy Monday! I hope you all are making it through - it's rainy and cold here and there's nothing I'd rather be doing than laying on my couch, watching movies, and baking cookies! Sigh.

So, besides Lilly Pulitzer and Target, there was some other really big news in the retail industry last week. You've probably seen, but C.Wonder, started by Chris Burch (Tory's ex-husband) is closing all retail stores and shutting down the website. While I never really connected with C.Wonder and it's clothing options, I really, really loved it for gifts and home trinkets. The price point was perfect and the items were pretty classic. The good news is you have until the end of the week to shop online and EVERYTHING is 50% off. I put together a few things I'll be stocking up on (engagement & wedding shower gifts, anyone?!) and some other items that I want before they are gone for good!

WINTER COATS

So yesterday actually felt like winter, which I'm not ready for one bit. Is anyone else wondering where fall went?! With this sudden drop in temperatures, I've looked at my coat collection and decided I definitely need a winter coat update. I have some great coats for fancier occasions, but as for an everyday, great winter coat... that's missing.

I've rounded up a few options that I love that are across the board in terms of price (especially when you consider Banana Republic's consistent 35-40% off deals!) I want something that hits mid thigh and is classic and I can wear for a few years, but with a little something different that makes it stand out from a peacoat. I personally am leaning towards 3 or 5, but 2 is sooo pretty with the red and the fur - what do you all think?!

What a week! A few things I'm loving and lusting over this week - like this Calypso sequined jacket. How amazing would you feel wearing that? Instant celebrity power, I'm telling you all! I'm pretty sure the Topshop tank could quickly become a staple in my spring/summer wardrobe, especially since it comes in a variety of colors, and I love those snakeskin pants.

Hope everyone has a great weekend. I'm excited to have absolutely no plans, especially since I have a busy spring coming up. I'm envisioning sleeping in, watching Oscar-nominated movies, and quality time with friends. See you all on Monday!

C.WONDER NEW ARRIVALS

It's almost spring, so let's feast our eyes on some springtime happiness, shall we?! I am loving the new arrivals at C.Wonder, with a small selection of favorites above. I mean, how cute is that blue ikat bowl? I'd be so happy eating cereal or salad or really anything out of it. It's the little things, right? The pink polka dot glass - I'm envisioning sipping lemonade cocktails on a porch in warm weather. I really can't get over the leopard needlepoint smoking slippers. I'm not even a big flats girl, but these are just way too cute. Must. Make. Mine. The clover necklace is a good layering staple, the initial earrings make for a great gift for a friend or yourself (!) and the clutch is just springy and fun. Who wouldn't want to walk into happy hour carrying that?!

Have a happy Wednesday!

Now that the holidays are over, it's time to get back to the Currently series! All of this cold weather has really gotten me in the mood for spring and summer - and the clothes that come with warm temperatures! I'm more than ready to be laying at the pool and wearing sandals and skirts or dresses out.  Who is with me?! If only we could fast forward to April!

THE PERFECT LAYERING CAMI

Awhile back, I posted about Tibi and J.Crew's silk camis, and how much I wanted one. I ended up purchasing the J.Crew one in lavender and have gotten a ton of wear out of it, but since I have found an even better deal. Top Shop carries camis in a large variety of colors, in both a v-neck and scoop neck version, for just $36. I own the scoop version in a light grey color, and it's pretty awesome. My friend Lucy actually thought it was Tibi - however it's 100% polyester, not silk! Being made of polyester makes it easy to wash - just throw it in the washer and let it air dry. Silk can get so tricky with stains and dry cleaning, and who has the time for that?! With fall temperatures approaching, I'm always looking for a great layering piece for blazers, jackets, and cardigans, and I think I have found the winner. Definitely want to stock up the basic black and cream, as well as a color - maybe this green?

THE SHORT OF IT

I've always been a dress girl, but recently I have really been getting into separates - skirts or shorts paired with a great top and accessories. These Forever 21 shorts are too cute - and such a deal! They would be perfect to throw on for a dinner with friends, going out, or running errands. Next pay check I think I'll have to get this first pair... and maybe the second!

50% OFF LOFT

I feel like I get emails from Loft just about every. single. day. with some new sale, so many times I overlook it (I mean how many times can I get excited about the sale being 60% off?!) Today however, I got an email that actually passed through my filter. Everything - including new arrivals and full priced merchandise - is 50% off  in stores and online for TODAY only.

One of the things I love about Loft is that they have affordable wardrobe staples that you don't see everyone and their mom wearing (how I sometimes feel about J.Crew). I love them even more when they offer amazing deals like this one! Here are my picks:
